My four desk areas

Hi everybody
I´ve had an electrician here to fix my electricity so I´ve finallly got proper electricity in the house. It feels SO good!

Today I´m giving a little tour of my four different desk areas. I´m giving a little explanation of the idea behind the different areas for those of you who haven´t been following the journey from the beginning...

I´m a very messy person who loves to play around with all sorts of ink. That made my x scrapspace very dirty. I got ink, glue, mist, stickles etc on things that were supposed to be clean all the time. So when I started planning my new space I figured I needed to separate the messy stuff from the clean ones.

I think the best way to get a space that suits your needs is to start with yourself. Not what fancy storage solutions there are out there, because they are plenty. How do you work? What things do you need to keep near and what can be stored elsewhere? If you´re not sure, start working on a couple of projects and watch yourself move around your space and what you use the most.

Do you think in colours or themes? Both? What shortcuts will you take? People are lazy by nature, you might as well admit your own flaws, otherwise you´ll end up with a space that you´ll not use in the way you thought you would.

I knew for instance that I would never use my sewing machine if it wasn´t on a desk ready to use. So that´s where area number three came up. My sewing area.

The last area is my computer area that also work as my office since I work a lot from home.

So here we go...

This desk is about 20 ft (6 metres) long. The closest area is the messy area, then comes the sewing area and my computer area. The clean area is my old rebuilt kitchen table, more about that later.

I´ve got four Helmer drawers from IKEA for my messy area. They contain stamps, tons of ink pads, acryllic paints, acryllic blocks, stamp cleaners, alcohol ink pens, craftsheets, masks etc etc. I´ve got a trimmer on the right drawer and a lot of colour charts on the left ones. I´ve got my BIA Glimmer Mist chart book on the table.

The small zink bucket is an extra little trash can. Lazy by nature. Somehow it´s so hard to put all the trash in the large white one under the table. So instead of getting it all over the place I bought three extra zink buckets to use as the first station so to speak.

My picture rails are 5 ft (150 cm) long and I´m embarressed to say that I actually designed the house after my picture rails. As you can see they fit a lot of stuff I like to keep near me. Mists of different kinds, my distress ink pads, crackle paints, distress stains, stickles (yes, I´ve got all of them-a lot of people have asked me that), alcohol inks, distress ink refillers, glitter, microbeads, embossing powder, embossing tool...

I´ve used old leftover crossbars to make my own storage solutions. The Mini Mister holder on the picture rail is one, the distress ink tool holder on the desk is another. A drilling machine and some imagination is all you need...

Here´s the sewing area. My sewing machine was on service a couple of weeks ago. That was some long weeks... I´ve got buttons in the window, fabric and sewing thread in the kitchen cabinet. The Helmer drawer contains embroideries and supplies.

My computer area... Not much to say. The ugly Gazelle to the right, the printer and cutting mats in the cabinet.

My clean area, the old kitchen table. As you can see in other photos I´ve got shelves on the other side with baskets. I just wanted to show my old lamps over the table, I absolutely love them. I was missing a screw and it´s so good to be a scrapper. I took just any screw and coloured it with my alcohol inks to match the lamp. Our carpenter has actually used some of my supplies when he built the scraphouse.

When we first moved in to our house 2½ years ago it was a complete mess with no heating, no eletricity, no laundry room, no nothing. I had nowhere to scrap, not even a kitchen table, so I remember how I was sitting on the floor and I used some old newspapers, a carpenter´s rule, a big fat carpenter knife and a mason´s level to make a card for someones birthday. Both worlds are floating together...

I´ve got all my essentials in the carousel on the table. I´ve got the large kitchen cabinet solution behind the table and I keep the most necessary machines and papers in the closest cabinets. I´ve also got three more Helmer drawers with chipboards, metallic decorations, adhesives, tools, things to alter etc.

So... What´s the best part about having a scraphouse of your own? Well. I found out the answer when I got electricity this Thursday. I can play any music I want as LOAD as I want. :-)

Thanks for dropping by...
